OK, I'm not against makeup, and yes I know we all have our ';ugly days'; but this just goes to show hollywood stars aren't really all that behind all that mask and photography airbrushing. Ugh. People just go ';she's HOT!'; but really they're just fugly without the magic of makeup and airbrushing.

Hmm...very interesting. They are just people like us, and with the kind of lifestyles they have, it is bound to catch up with them. All the collagen, and botox, the silicon, extreme dieting or puking, and other procedures cannot be good for anyone. All I can say is it must be really hard to be them- everyone looks bad sometime, and there is someone there with a camera every time someone famous is doing anything.

How did the movie stars from the 20s and 30s do their makeup?
You know how they all had the similar ';look'; to them? I have no idea what it was that made their eye makeup look that way, but I think it looks pretty.

They're doing a smoky-eye thing. Smashbox cosmetics has some good stuff for that.
However, be aware that just like today - those photos were ';doctored.'; Only the photographers did it themselves with lighting (over exposure) and soft filters (and such) this creates more contrast and that's why they have such soft, striking features.How did the movie stars from the 20s and 30s do their makeup?

They would look just like the rest of us. Maybe icky, though, because of all the drugs and having worn so much makeup for so long. It takes time for skin to heal from that crap!

If all of us women could have are own makeup artist and all the equipment Hollywood has we all could be beautiful, flawless models.This morning I saw an infomercial about Sheer Cover Mineral makeup and the following stars had before and after shots taken (Leeza Gibbons, Melissa Gilbert, and Belle on Days) and believe me what a difference. They had redness, blotches, dark circles under their eyes, scars and so on. Let me just say makeup and cameras can make a world of tremendous difference. They surely didn't look like the beautiful stars we usually see on television.
Most of them I would say definately not like, Jessica simpson now theres a girl who NEEDS make-up!!

Shes always edgy about things, she never wants to hear me out. Once she says no about something she doesn't want to hear my view of it. shes hurting me really bad but I cant get her to see it. She manipulates it so I end up looking bad, then I end up saying sorry. Icant take this anymore, I prayed about but how can I make her see what shes doing to me. My mom was like that too. I am 27 now and all I can say is you just have to ride it out. My mom was always against me and she would never accept my opinions on anything and if I disagreed with her even if it was my favorite color vs hers she would get all bent out of shape. My mom was so childish sometimes and she would argue with me and always say I was the one with the bad attitude. but I realized years later she was the one with the issues. You just have to be patient and ride it out. Try talking to a close family member- my grandma (moms mother) was my greatest alli- she helped me get thru and deal with my mother!
It's hard to be a teenager (I assume you are) and deal with all the changes you are dealing with, and all the challenges in school, and deal with parents on top of it. I hope she has your best interest at heart. Maybe she is worried about you making really bad choices. It's a tough world now. I am guessing she is trying to keep you safe in it.
My advice would be to continue to be obedient. And when you are older, 18, you can live your life how you want to. Family is the most important. You'll realize this the older you get.

The lighting was manly large fresnels, which are fairly soft. The logic of the direct lighting washing them out is a little bit reversed. Fresnels have a very wide and soft beam at full flood and would have washed out the features because of how soft this light was. Also since lighting design was new for any industry, the lighting was much less precise in how it was used, aside from brightness need to properly expose the film stock.
