The chemical makeup of a star's surface is obtained by...?

a) measuring the chemical elements present in the stellar wind

b) theoretical methods, considering the evolution of the star

c) taking a sample of the surface with a space probe

d) spectroscopy of the light emitted by the star

a,b,c, or d?The chemical makeup of a star's surface is obtained by...?
D spectroscopy

Think about it, we can't just hop in a spaceship and go visit a distant star. The only thing we can study is it's light. The chemical makeup of a star's surface is obtained by...?
D

But why don't you do your own homework from now on?
Actually the latest method is A. the Genesis mission that returned (not quite successfully) in 2004 did exactly that.

edit: ok,ok, i'll concede the question asked about a star not the sun, but i think i would argue that if i was in the class, since A is a valid answer and has been done...
d. At least as of now.
