How did the movie stars from the 20s and 30s do their makeup?

You know how they all had the similar ';look'; to them? I have no idea what it was that made their eye makeup look that way, but I think it looks pretty.

not that i'd do my makeup like that every day or anything. i'm just curious to see how they looked so doe-eyed and sad.How did the movie stars from the 20s and 30s do their makeup?
They're doing a smoky-eye thing. Smashbox cosmetics has some good stuff for that.





However, be aware that just like today - those photos were ';doctored.'; Only the photographers did it themselves with lighting (over exposure) and soft filters (and such) this creates more contrast and that's why they have such soft, striking features.How did the movie stars from the 20s and 30s do their makeup?
